Norton Rose Fulbright boosts international arbitration practice with partner hire

Norton Rose Fulbright has strengthened its international arbitration practice in Asia with the appointment of Kent Phillips as a partner in Singapore.

Joining from Hogan Lovells, Phillips is a senior dispute resolution lawyer with more than 20 years of experience in conducting arbitrations, under both civil and common applicable laws. He regularly advises clients on complex and high-value commercial disputes across key sectors and jurisdictions, including those related to the infrastructure, natural resources and energy sectors in Southeast Asia and India.

“We’re excited that a lawyer of Kent’s calibre is joining our Singapore team and he will extend the breadth of our offering to clients across South East Asia,” said Yu-En Ong, head of Norton Rose Fulbright’s Singapore office.

Alongside his arbitration advocacy, Phillips has now accumulated more than 30 appointments as arbitrator over the last 10 years. He holds full registration as a foreign lawyer to appear before the Singapore International Commercial Court. He is a director of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators – Singapore branch, and co-chair of the International Bar Association's Asia Pacific Arbitration Group.

“There is increasing demand in South East Asia for robust disputes and international arbitration advice at all stages of proceedings so Kent is a perfect fit for our growing practice,” said Patrick Bourke, head of dispute resolution and litigation, Europe, Middle East and Asia.

Phillips added: “Norton Rose Fulbright has a long history in Singapore and advising clients across South East Asia. With one of the world’s largest dispute resolution practices and sector experience, the firm offers me an ideal platform to continue to build my practice. I look forward to working with my colleagues in Singapore and around the world to support clients on their most complex matters.”
